Allira Wilson's debut album Rise and Fall won the Australian Bell Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2014 and was ABC's Feature Album of the week. Writing in The Weekend Australian, John McBeath called it the arrival of an important new voice and gave it four stars. A WAAPA graduate and winner of the 2010 Melville Toyota Scholarship, Allira was offered a place at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York in 2012. She has played the Perth International Jazz Festival and Wangaratta, toured China with WAAPA, and works regularly with Jamie Oehlers' Blowfish, the Mace Francis Orchestra, WAYJO and the vocal ensemble Invenio. The writing leans on jazz harmony but sits close to contemporary songwriting, and there's real weight behind the voice carrying it.
