Bottleneck slide guitar sits at the centre of Ben J Carter's live show, played across a one-man setup that adds foot stomp and percussion to acoustic guitar. Since 2015 he has taken that show to venues, events and festivals throughout Victoria, moving between soaring slide work, blues hollers and folk ballads within a single set. His reworkings of old-time country blues draw on Robert Johnson, Fred McDowell, Lightnin' Hopkins and Skip James, alongside a run of original folk songs of his own. His debut album, These Winters They Howl, showcases his finger-picking guitar work.
