Calypso Mama

Steelpan is the instrument and the point of difference: Calypso Mama has performed with it around Australia, playing music that needs no power supply, so a backyard, beach or park works as well as a function room. The set moves between Caribbean calypso, Latin styles and popular covers, able to sit quietly under conversation or pull a crowd onto the dance floor as the night goes on. Her work as lead tenor player with the Pantastic Steelband sits alongside credits with Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band, Jahbutu and D'Caribbean Rhythmaires, plus competition appearances in Canada and the Caribbean. Calypso Mama has also run adult workshops and school tours across Queensland. The song list runs past 120 titles, from Jamaican Farewell and Kingston Town to Under the Sea and a set of Christmas favourites played calypso-style.
