Caxton Street

Six musicians make up the Caxton Street Jazz Band, built around the hot jazz of the early twentieth century rather than the swing standards more commonly heard on the circuit. Big band swing, mainstream jazz, folk, country and rhythm and blues also feed into the repertoire, along with popular tunes from the thirties, forties and fifties. Demand for the band's shows comes from jazz festivals and jazz clubs as well as community and private functions, spreading across Queensland into northern and central New South Wales. The group has built its reputation on staying close to its early jazz roots while keeping the material accessible to audiences who wouldn't necessarily seek out that era on their own.
