Hot jazz from the early 1900s, played by six pieces for rooms that didn't know they wanted it. The Caxton Street Jazz Band takes music that gets almost no airplay now and puts it in front of general audiences, who tend to respond better than anyone expects. Around the core sit big band swing, mainstream jazz, folk, country, rhythm and blues, and popular tunes from the 30s, 40s and 50s, which keeps a long night varied. That range is a fair part of why demand has climbed. They work jazz festivals, jazz clubs, community events and private functions throughout Queensland and into northern and central New South Wales.
