Chasing the Moon

Hot Club swing with a Sydney accent. Chasing the Moon are a six-piece built around vocalist and violinist Kathy Bluff and saxophonist and flautist Paul Burjan, two musicians who've played together for many years and sound like it. John Blenkhorn's guitar drives the rhythm and takes solos, Garry Steel's piano accordion supplies the Parisian flavour, and Merv Sequiera on double bass and Mike Quigley on drums keep it swinging and in the pocket. The repertoire starts with gypsy jazz and takes in Latin, blues and more modern sounds, with solos passed around the band so everyone gets a turn. They've recorded two albums, Nuages and Ooh La La, both played on ABC Jazz, 2MBS FM and Eastside Radio. Festival credits include Illawarra, Newcastle, Dubbo, Moruya and Wagga, and around Sydney they're regulars at Foundry616, Camelot Lounge, Humph Hall, the Sydney Jazz Club and Leichhardt Bowling Club. Complex enough for jazz listeners, catchy enough for a wedding.
