Brendan Fitzgerald

The Dave Brubeck Story is a concert about a musician as much as a set of his tunes. Pianist Brendan Fitzgerald leads the quartet and tells the story from the piano between numbers, with a visual montage behind and, more recently, live vision of the players mixed into it through VJ software. The music is the classic quartet material of the 1950s and 60s, Take Five among it, played straight but with the group's own reading rather than a note-for-note copy. The lineup is Andy Firth on alto sax and clarinet, Satomi Ohnishi on percussion, Quentin Dunne on double bass and Fitzgerald on piano, with Adelaide saxophonist Peter Raidel stepping in when Firth is unavailable. It has played four shows at the 2015 Adelaide Fringe, plus dates at The Basement and Sutherland Entertainment Centre in Sydney and the Clock Tower Centre in Melbourne.
