DIVALICIOUS

DivaLicious brings two international sopranos, Penny Shaw and Fiona Cooper Smyth, together for opera that doesn't take itself too seriously. Their program moves through operatic highlights, musical theatre and popular songs, carried by close soprano harmony and a strong comic streak. Costumes and playful stage business are part of the performance, but the voices remain at its centre. The duo works well when an event calls for a feature act rather than passive background music. Guests get recognisable repertoire, accomplished classical singing and enough theatrical mischief to keep the room engaged. The contrast between formal vocal skill and cheeky presentation is the act's calling card.
