DJ Salami

Sydney parties have had DJ Salami behind the decks for more than 15 years. His run started at Goodgod Small Club, now closed, where the Jingle Jangle parties he hosted pulled weird world sounds from the pre-internet era onto the dance floor. He went on to open his own left-field dance spot, Freda's, also since closed, where an Italo Disco night saw the Smokey LaBeef persona become DJ Salami for good. From there the sets widened into neu club anthems, outsider house and proto techno, including nights alongside touring international DJs. The blend across those years remains the through-line: music with a strong, unusual sensibility rather than a single lane.
