Yen came up in the UK music scene and has spent seven years moving from hip hop and R&B into underground electronic territory, mostly UK garage. What makes it interesting is that the hip hop mixing style came with him: intricate breaks, scratching and cuts, which is not how most garage DJs work. So the sets carry a nostalgic streak alongside something genuinely new. Melbourne based, and a good fit for a club night with an ear for technique.
