Dr Groove came out of South-East Queensland, put together by players with serious touring history behind them who wanted to get back to live rooms. The band scales from a duo up through trio and quartet to a full big band, and the repertoire moves with it: dinner sets, Top 40, jazz, R'n'B, rock, even a musical theatre number if the night calls for one. The point of it is the shift from dinner to dance without a jolt in the middle. Good song choices, proper sound, and the sense that somebody is steering the evening rather than just playing through a list.
