Elysia

Elysia Murphy sings and Steve Hensby plays guitar and sings, and together they cover swing, bossa, bop, ballads and blues along with their own compositions. Some songs are in French, some in Portuguese, and both of them improvise. Elysia has an impressive range and pitch you can rely on, while Steve, a Berklee graduate, handles bass lines, comping and vocal harmonies at the same time, which is why the pair sound fuller than two people should. Their influences run from Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Chet Baker and Joe Pass through to Kurt Elling, Esperanza Spalding and Melody Gardot. They're based in Perth.
