Ente

A tall black and red creature moves through the crowd on stilts, head shaped oddly, gaze serene, and people stop what they're doing. That's Ente, a Brisbane stilt performance built around character rather than height alone. The performers strut, loop and dance rather than simply walk, and they play off whoever they meet, so the same booking reads differently in a foyer than it does in an open plaza. Ente works as a solo, a duo or a trio, and can extend to groups of four or five. Duo is the most common. These aren't stage shows, though the characters do hold an audience in a set piece: the Jack'n'Jack show played a 20 minute set to a grandstand at the races in Mumbai, and Blax did five minutes for a seated audience at an Audi launch in Seoul.
