Period instruments and original arrangements help Cairo Club Orchestra revisit dance music from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. Founded by trumpeter Peter Milley, the Melbourne ensemble draws on early jazz, blues and swing, with music by Duke Ellington, Fletcher Henderson and other bandleaders of the era. Brass and reeds sit alongside rhythm instruments, with options to add a vocalist, piano or violin. Period microphones and Art Deco music stands extend the historical character of the performance.
