Ayako Tsunazawa and Ayako Fujii formed A.YA in 2013, combining taiko drums with shinobue flute, sanshin and vocals. The Melbourne duo changes instruments throughout its performances, mixing original compositions with Japanese tunes. Festival and corporate appearances sit alongside cultural events and school workshops. Audience participation can form part of the show, with the contrast between drums, strings and flute introducing several Japanese instruments within a single performance.
