Rap vocals over hard rock were the starting idea for Iron Cypher. Perth musicians Blunt and Maali developed that combination through blues rock, ska-punk and metal influences before releasing Give 'Em the Axe in 2014. A full live band followed, taking the material beyond its initial writing setup. Guitar driven music remains the backdrop for the hip hop delivery, with the different rock styles giving the arrangements room to change direction.
