Brisbane Excelsior Brass Band traces its beginnings to 1912, when Billy Veal and Jim Napier formed a new ensemble following the closure of the Brisbane Tramways Band. Competition playing sits alongside a longstanding community concert role. The band has appeared in Brisbane parks, Christmas carol programmes and other public events, as well as private functions around Queensland. Its brass band format suits occasions that call for a full ensemble and a clearly featured musical performance.
