Gus Leighton

Jazz shapes Gus Leighton's playing more than any other influence, and he names a run of tenor greats, among them Getz, Gordon, Young and Shorter, as the figures behind his own saxophone style. Based in Hobart, he has built a following around the country rather than staying local. His own account describes a high-octane stage presence, and endorsements from Syos Mouthpieces and Bari Woodwind Inc back an eclectic approach to the instrument. A contemporary rather than strictly traditional jazz sound runs through his playing.
