Four horns out front, a four piece rhythm section behind, and Libby Hammer singing. Hammer Nine is one of the bands from Libby's stable in Perth, alongside Hip Mo' Toast Big Band, and the brief here is dancing rather than sitting politely. The set works through rare grooves and old rhythm and blues, with songs made famous by Dusty Springfield, Amy Winehouse, Etta James, Nina Simone, Sugar Pie DeSanto and Aretha Franklin. Sixties soul is the centre of gravity, but there's Motown, some zydeco, a rumba and a properly mean backbeat shuffle in there as well. Corporate events, private functions, weddings and themed nights all suit.
