Isabel Yamazaki plays contemporary music with folk, soul and classical threads running through it, and what she wants from a live set is connection rather than spectacle. The idea is to leave the room a little more peaceful than she found it. Adele, Sara Bareilles and Gabrielle Aplin are the singers she looks up to, alongside the composer Hayao Miyazaki, which tells you something about the melodic instinct at work. Good for events where the music should be felt rather than shouted over.
