Over fifty years ago, four boys in the same class at Sandgate District State High School started a rock and roll dance band. The Sonics began with instrumental hits in the style of The Shadows and were soon in demand across Brisbane's northern suburbs, running their own sell-out dances at Sandgate Town Hall. They named those nights Rock Under The Clock, a nod to Bill Haley. The band still plays, now with vocalist Jim Hansen out front and Annette Smith on keyboards, staying faithful to the tone and style of the early sixties. There is plenty in it for anyone who lived through that music, and plenty for anyone meeting it for the first time.
