French accordion is the whole point here. Jo Abbott plays piano accordion with a leaning toward the bal musette years of the 1930s and 40s, the era of Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet, Juliette Greco, Django Reinhardt and Gus Viseur. Waltzes, tango, gypsy swing and chanson. It's music that gets older guests reminiscing and younger ones dancing, sometimes both at once. The repertoire reaches past France as well, with instrumental pieces from Italy, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Hungary, Russia and Argentina. Jo works widely around Melbourne and has played events in Europe, plus festival stages including Wangaratta Jazz, Melbourne Jazz, Stonnington Jazz, the Melbourne Bastille Day French Festival, OzManouche in Brisbane and the Melbourne Recital Centre.
