About this act
Brazilian repertoire runs deeper than most people expect, and Juliana Areias has over 500 songs to draw on, from silky bossas to sambas with a bit more heat in them. Add jazz standards, Beatles, pop rock, and French, Italian and Spanish tunes, all sung with a Brazilian accent to the phrasing. She has performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Auckland Festival, and worked at the University of Auckland as a Brazilian music expert. Her Perth debut was a full house at Kulcha, the Multicultural Arts Centre of Western Australia, leading the Aquarela Band. Since then: Live @ Woodside, the Chilli Festival, Sculpture by the Sea at Cottesloe, Fremantle Festival and the City of Perth concert series. Duo through to quintet.
