Keeping The Beat

Everything in this show is played on found objects, and everyone in the room ends up playing something. Keeping the Beat starts with a single simple beat, then builds through time signatures borrowed from cultures around the world until the whole group is clapping, stomping and yelling its way through a Rio carnival style samba. It's part performance, part workshop, and the emphasis sits on cooperation and having a go rather than getting it perfect. Instruments are supplied. The first outing was at Scienceworks in Melbourne as part of a school holiday program, and it still suits festivals, schools, libraries and holiday programs best.
