Magdalia writes out of Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs and her originals do the heavy lifting: honest, unguarded songwriting about her own experience as an autistic artist, delivered with the sort of vocal that reaches the back of a room without a band behind it. The covers sit comfortably alongside, drawn from Adele, Amy Winehouse, Fleetwood Mac, Taylor Swift, ABBA, Elvis, Billie Eilish and Cyndi Lauper, and she'll learn a specific song if you ask. Years of Victorian venues sit behind the live set. She arrives with everything: speakers, microphone and stand, mixer, tracks, stool. A power point is all she needs, and a battery speaker can be arranged where there isn't one. Weddings, funerals, pubs and corporate rooms all sit inside what she does.
