About this act
Rouge is French for red, and Martini Rouge lean into all of it. Jazz in the Brubeck and Ellington tradition, laced with samba, New Orleans rhythms and a fair amount of theatre. The Sydney quartet is piano, double bass, drums and voice, and the repertoire runs in four languages: English, Italian, French and Spanish. They dig up lost jazz and Latin gems, then write their own material inspired by the same well, with April in Paris, Cheek to Cheek, I Put a Spell on You and Django Reinhardt's Brazil among the touchstones. Their first outing was the main arena of the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2012.
