Moussa Diakite and Wassado

Born in Mali and now based in Western Sydney, guitarist and composer Moussa Diakite has performed alongside Salif Keita and Toumani Diabate, work that helped carry African music into western mainstream audiences. Congolese rhythm, Highlife guitar lines and Afrobeat grooves run through his playing, layered together with Cuban and jazz phrasing rather than kept as separate styles. On stage he sings and plays guitar alongside his composing work, drawing on that mix of influences across a live set.
