Muhanamwe is an African drumming ensemble from Melbourne, Victoria.
Guinean rhythm forms the backbone of Muhanamwe, a Melbourne ensemble whose name translates as 'our culture'. Djembe solos, raw vocal harmonies and layered percussion arrangements form original arrangements drawing on West African traditions. The group was founded in Melbourne in 2007 and also features Australian percussionist Anna Camara alongside founders Aliou Sylla and Mohamed Camara. Bookings have included the Emerge Festival, the Globe to Globe World Music Festival, Share the Spirit Festival and Down to Earth Festival, among other cultural events around the country.
