Roots tradition meets sonic exploration in the work of Cairns-based guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Nick Atherton, grounded in expressive blues and folk before expanding into flute melodies and psychedelic guitar improvisation. The sound moves between earthy rhythms and spacious, atmospheric textures rather than settling into one fixed groove. A long-running career playing venues and festivals has fed into the current project, Roots and Beyond, which builds on that blues and folk foundation while reaching for newer musical territory. Reflective, instrumental passages sit alongside more driving sections within the same set, giving the act range beyond a straightforward acoustic performance.
