Shyamjith Nair

Tabla, congas, bongos, a full western kit and a Roland HandSonic. Shyamjith Nair plays all of it, and sings too, as a classically trained Carnatic vocalist working out of Perth. His sets move between Indian traditional playing and modern production, with konnakol vocal percussion sitting alongside live takes on Bollywood, Tamil and Malayalam songs. He's appeared at the Fremantle Biennale and the Ellington Jazz Festival, and has supported visiting international acts. Away from the stage he produces in Ableton Live, which shows in how the electronics and the hand drums are layered rather than just stacked. Suits weddings, cultural celebrations and corporate nights that want something with real technique behind it.
