Ricardo Bona

Ricardo Bona's accordion work reaches well beyond one style. Trained in Brazil, he graduated from the University of Sao Paulo after researching the country's oral accordion-teaching tradition, and also studied through the AWM Conservatory and Sao Paulo State Music School. The instrument first found him when a neighbourhood forro band needed an accordionist and he borrowed one from a nun to learn. Since then his repertoire has grown through choro, forro, Brazilian folk music, jazz, tango, classical music and musica caipira. Ricardo has performed with established Brazilian artists and bands, appeared at Woodford and other Australian festivals, and represented Brazilian music at Sydney's international accordion festival. Brisbane events can book him for atmospheric background music, cultural celebrations and feature performances, with travel available beyond Queensland.
