Romanian Folk Band

You will not hear this repertoire often in Australia, and that's most of the appeal. This Canberra group plays traditional Romanian party music, lautareasca and Romani folk in the Taraf de Haidouks tradition, led by veteran tambal (cimbalom) player Tim Meyen with violin, accordion and double bass alongside. The instrumentals are fast and the songs are old. They've played WOMADelaide, the National Folk Festival and Floriade among others, and the band has won awards for the work. The repertoire draws on Romica Puceanu, Gabi Lunca, Ion Onoriu, Victor Gore and Andrei Mihalache, and they'll take requests from anywhere in the genre. They bring a small PA or work with your operator.
