Roo Friend

Roo Friend plays bluesy folk jazz on baritone guitar with a rocking edge, taking cues from Jaco Pastorius down low and Clarence Gatemouth Brown and BB King further up the neck. He studied with Ike Isaacs and Tommy Emmanuel, spent two years playing guitar alongside pianist Larry Muhoberac, and worked on Long Way To The Top on guitar and banjo. Other work has included stints with Col Joye, Little Pattie and Normie Rowe, plus music theatre orchestras under conductor Dobbs Franks. Alongside standards and covers there is a solid catalogue of originals, which get regular airplay on community radio around the world. Folk, Wes Montgomery jazz, blues, and a satirical streak owed to Frank Zappa and Mose Allison. Available solo, as a duo with sax, or as a trio with drums added.
