Sam Simmons

An absurdist streak runs through Sam Simmons' stand-up, built on ideas that swerve away from the ordinary rather than toward it. A 2006 solo show, Tales of the Erotic Cat, picked up a Barry Award nomination for Most Outstanding Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Where Can I Win A Bear Around Here? took the Festival Director's Choice Award in 2008. Two years later, Fail won the Piece of Wood Award and The Incident, performed with David Quirk, took the Golden Gibbo. A second Edinburgh nomination followed in 2014 for Death of a Sailsman, which also brought a Helpmann Award for Best Comedy Performance and the Directors Choice at the Sydney Comedy Festival. Radio work has included hosting Triple J's Weekend Breakfast Show and its weekday Breakfast and Drive slots.
