SAMBOZZY

Percussionist Nunzio Toscano directs SambOzzy, a Brazilian music and dance ensemble based in Perth. His samba work has taken him to Indonesia, Greece, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Brazil as both a teacher and performer. Under his direction, the group combines a contemporary Brazilian band with carnival drumming, capoeira, costumed dancers and the movement of a Rio-style showcase. Cultural understanding is treated as part of the work, with the artists presenting the roots of the music alongside its stage spectacle. The drums drive each performance, while dance and capoeira translate that rhythm into movement for the audience.
