Schmaltz is a jazz band from Lismore, New South Wales.
Judd Brennand leads Schmaltz, a corporate function band working out of the Northern Rivers area of NSW, with Marcus Makin on piano, Julieus Hofstetter on saxophone, Sam Langston on bass and Byron Goodwin on drums. The band moves between swing, bossa nova, soul and modern folk, and the line-up can be trimmed right back to a duo or opened out to five players to suit the booking. Its appearances include Thursday sessions at the Winsome Hotel in Lismore, alongside dates on Darwin and ABC North Coast radio. The repertoire draws on standards such as Autumn Leaves, Fly Me to the Moon and Black Orpheus.
