About this act
Sea Shanty Circus build a show out of working songs. Shanties were sung by sailors to keep everyone pulling at the same moment, with different songs for different jobs: the short drag, the pumping shanty, the stamp and go. The group take that idea and run with it, singing to whatever is around them and moving their boat from one place to the next as the story goes. Props and costumes do a lot of the work. It plays well to school audiences, who tend to be sceptical for about a minute and then join in.
