Steve and Shirl have played this country properly, from the Perth suburbs down to Margaret River and clear across to Airlie Beach. Their trick is knowing which version of the night you want. Keep it low-key and you get Beatles, Cat Stevens, Dire Straits, Cold Chisel and Crowded House at a conversational volume. Ask for a party and the dial moves: 500 Miles, Sweet Caroline, Hey Baby, Time Warp, YMCA, Working Class Man. Five decades of hits, feature songs and a fair bit of talking to the crowd to get the floor moving. They fit into about four metres by three, and they carry public liability insurance.
