Gypsy jazz, or Jazz Manouche if you want the proper name, played the way Django Reinhardt developed it in wartime Paris with guitar and clarinet leading. Ewan MacKenzie put this group together to explore exactly that period. The line-up is Dan Cosgrove on clarinet and tenor sax, Kay Sullivan on accordion and vocals, Miranda Deutsch on guitar, Peter Freeman on double bass and Ewan on guitar and vocals. Ewan, Dan and Kay all write and improvise, so the arrangements move rather than sitting still. Lyrical, infectious, and a bit different from the usual function band.
