Argentine tango is the heart of it, but Sydney Jazz Tango let jazz solos loose over the top, so the haunting melodies keep company with some real improvising. The group formed in 2009 as a duo and grew into a sextet playing traditional tangos alongside original pieces. They've performed at the National Argentine Day celebrations in Canberra at the Argentinean Embassy's request, and sold out rooms in Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Newcastle and the Central West. Several formats are on offer, including a two hour Cafe con Tango show with two dancers in a cafe setting, and a jazz-infused programme built around Piazzolla and contemporary tango composers.
