Derrek Lau performs around Perth as That Magic Dude, mixing sleight of hand with mind reading and telekinesis routines, on stage and on camera. He's twelve years into it, with work for Sci-Tech, 92.9, Bunnings, the Pan Pacific Hotel, Bankwest and Murdoch University. What sets the material apart is where he pulls it from. Psychology feeds the mind reading, and he builds props with 3D printing, so the illusions aren't the standard set everyone else is working. He'll pitch the show at whoever is watching, which means a corporate function, a wedding, a private party or a room full of kids all get a different version.
