The Sugar Shakers

The Sugar Shakers work the late forties and early fifties, though the name undersells how raunchy the set gets. They've supported Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Imelda May, played the Big Day Out among other festivals, and spent years touring the east coast. A seven-track self-titled EP came first, then a full twelve-track album of originals called Red Rocket Baby, which puts a modern spin on rockabilly, swing and rock and roll with a couple of country and jazz numbers alongside. Live, the four piece can run up to four hours, mixing originals with covers of Wanda Jackson, Janis Martin, Patsy Cline and others from the era.
