Omar Shah sings Kamahl, and the voice is the reason it works: a rich bass baritone with real depth to it, closer to Paul Robeson in weight and Nat King Cole in delivery. The set draws on Kamahl's earlier catalogue, The Elephant Song, The Sound of Goodbye, One Hundred Children and Ol' Man River among them, alongside standards like My Way, The Impossible Dream, Nature Boy and Some Enchanted Evening. It crosses generations comfortably, which is much of the appeal for a mixed room. Sydney based.
