VelvetSol

Formed in 2023 and based in Hobart, VelvetSol works soul, jazz and R&B into interpretations of both standards and newer material. Luther Vandross and Erykah Badu sit among the influences shaping that sound, alongside Donny Hathaway and Eric Benet. Local Hobart musicians accompany the act, filling out the arrangements around the core sound. Heartache, unrequited love and hope run as recurring themes through the original material, giving the set a personal thread beneath the soul and jazz foundations.
